Been striper fishing for about 2 years now and this time of year when the water heats up I was always under the impression you needed to get your bait down deeper to the cooler water as quickly as possible.I have even heard of people pulling the line out of their reel pryor to dropping the bait in the water so that it would drop that much faster. Now what I don't understand is what I have been reading on this board and another board I go to.People are saying its hard to keep bait alive down deep this time of year and that you should be freelining. This goes against everything that I beleived was true.Don't you want to keep the bait tank water cool, then get your bait down deeper to cooler water as quickly as possible to avoid temp. change shock??????And also isn't the water to warm to be free lining.Seems to me the bait could not live up shallow on a freeline due to the high water temp. Any input is appriciated.
