Fisholishous, I don't disagree. I stirred the pot pretty hard and enough has been said.
I totally agree that the striper populations have been devastated at Hartwell and Clarks Hill by summer water quality issues. I had a Clarks Hill guide tell me last week that there are less stipers per acre in Clarks Hill right now than at any point in his lifetime. The hybrids are great but stripers are way way down. I'm sure I can say pretty much the same about Hartwell.
My personal theory is it's all the flooding rains we have had the last few years. We went through decades long droughts prior to that and the Corp was under restricted using most summers during those droughts. But when we get late spring and even worse summer floods, they have to pump like crazy and the cold oxygenated water which is in limitied supply to begin with is pumped right out. On top of that the Hartwell home owners have pushed the politicians to pressure the corp to keep the lake higher all year, so when we do get a flooding rain they have to pump like crazy. Before, it was just an opportunity to fill the lake back up and they could draw it out slower.
Just my theory anyway. I really wish they would whole hog stock Hybrids which will make it just fine and just do limited striper stockings like they did in the 70's and 80's. Those lakes were incredible then.
