If you want a handheld, the Garmin GPS 76 handheld is an excellent unit, Will. I have one for use on inland lakes and at the coast. With WAAS, the GPS 76 put me within a few feet of my shrimping hotspot this fall with ease...and brought my 30-footer home to Edisto Beach from a Wilmington NC boat yard with no other nav system installed.
I strongly recommend WAAS in any brand you buy to get superior accuracy...and to use for setting trolling speed. With a 12 satellite receiver plus the WAAS low-level satellites, you get rapid updates of position and speed. The GPS 76 can be bought online for about $180 or at Boater's World for $199.95 + tax. The Garmin GPS MAP 76 is about $349...comes with mapping capability.
Hope this helps.
