I have been using an LCX-15 since April, and do like it well. It provides much detail, which is great for striper fishing. I have not yet had occasion to use the deepwater-frequency yet. And I'm still learning about the GPS, but I'm using it more. I had the maps installed after being caught in heavy fog a couple of times.
I did have a major problem initially. My first one showed little detail - few trees and fish. It took a while to figure out what was going on - but it was sending low power. When I called Lowrance, there was no hassel - they had a new unit on my doorstep the next morning.
One other possible suggestion - depending on your wife's budget. The X-85's offer pretty good detail also. You may want to compare and see for yourself if you want to pay for the difference.
