When I looked at the signup sheet, I realized this was going to be a shootout from some of the best and most respected names in striped bass fishing with representation from the SBCC, ASC and Striper Kings. It was a who's who list of "Big Fish Specialist" which included: Will Walker, Kevin Short, Benji Smith, Shane and Steve Foster, Bill Smith, David Cleveland, Scott Perry, Warren Turner, Horace Owens, Kevin Hawkins, Larry Fowler(1983 ASBS World Champion), Sid Robb, Ray Price, Keith Davis, Otho and Rex McLaughlin, Greg Brewer and more. They totally lived up to their reputations with several fish over 20 lbs hitting the scales and only 1.82 lbs seperating 1st - 3rd.
4th place and $97.00 went to Otho and Rex McLaughlin of SBCC Team Mac-Mac along with Warren Turner. They weighed in a total of 29.87 lbs, which included a very nice anchor fish of 20.51 lbs.
Finishing in 3rd Place was the SBCC team of Ray Price and Team Regulators with a total weight of 32.68 lbs. and a 2nd Place Big Fish of 23.42 lbs. Ray's team took home $605.00 for their efforts.
Always a threat and finishing in the 2nd Place position was ASC team Stripers Unlimited of Shane and Steve Foster with 33.64 lbs. Shane and Steve took home $795.00 with two strong fish in the teens.
The win and congratulations went to one of the most likeable guys around, in Striper Kings member Scott Perry and team with 34.50 lbs and 1st Place Big Fish of 23.88 lbs. Scott walked away with $1510.00 and a custom rod valued at $125.00. Great job!
Thanks to Dennis Landrum and Team Longshot for sponsoring the tournament. Dennis does so much for charity organizations and for the sport of fishing.
Thanks to Scott Whitmire and Jordan Rivers Outfitters for organizing and facilitating the event.
Thanks to Warren Turner for his help and the use of his equipment.
My family is in great appreciation for everyone who supported the tournament, especially with gas prices being what they are. I am sure that my father would be proud of all for; supporting the Shriner's Hospital, the fellowship, and the down right angling ability of those who participated.
Thanks and Congratulations,
Michael Griswold
