I am just getting into striper fishing. I go to Clemson so generally I fish up this way. Had scattered luck the last few times ive been out.

Night fishing: Is it any good? we went the other day, netted some shad around 7 and fished till 12 or so. not a hit. we didnt cut them, but i figured something would knock them down. we were mainly trolling around, but did a little drifting as well. any suggestions?

Live well: The boat i recently got has a cubical live well, is this a problem keeping bait alive (swimming into corners). It killed alot of shad one day, but i overloaded it because i got a whole net full and didnt release enough.

Tackle: leaders, line strength, etc. Im not going for monsters these days, but how strong are the mid sized fish. dont want to get a good hook up only to lose it.

Fishing locations: I generally like to move around. dont have planers or down riggers, but what am i looking for? is it best to just pick a point that i feel is lucky and let the lines go?

bait: Is there a bait store close to Clemson that had herring? closer than portman anyway. Ive only been netting shad.

Thanks for any help. Ive just found this site, and am enjoying it very much, seems i read more about fishing than i actually get out there sometimes. I am planning on attending some of the club meetings and getting involved. Thanks again.
