I'm very pleased with my Penn Captiva. It holds 200 yards of 12 pound test and is a really strong spinning reel. I mainly use it for freelining, but I'm sure it would do fine with plugs. At Boaters World, I believe it was around $50.

Also, you may wish to look at the Shakespeare Intrepid if they still make them. I've been very pleased with that spinning reel, and it has landed me some very nice fish! The Catera is probably just as good. I've not been very pleased with Shakespeare's baitcasters but have had good luck with their spinning reels. Of course, their rods have always been superb.
