Bob, I am new to the striper game and I had my first cast net effort for deep water shad this afternoon (Dec. 30) here on a lake in Tennessee. I saw lots of gulls diving and I idled around in the area until my X-15 screen went black with a swarm of shad in twenty feet of water. I was idling into the wind and when the shad showed on the screen I shut down the engine and got the net as the wind (mild) was blowing me back toward the area I just idled over. I threw the net and there were so many shad in it I could barely pull it off the bottom. Beginner's luck but gave me some confidence regardless.
