Fred,

I don't know who "Very concerned member" is, but you are 100% correct on the open discussion part. This board actually does not belong to Striper Kings as a club board. It is only sponsored by Striper Kings and is actually used by the Clark's Hill Striper Club as well. As a matter of fact, I do not have any authority to remove anything from this board. That is the web-masters job. He is not a club officer. The board of directors can request he remove an item. However, that has never beeen done, to my recollection. Please don't get the misunderstanding that any view posted on this board is from the "club hierarchy", unless it is posted by me and has my title as President under the signiture block. Otherwise, any opinion I post is just as any other person.

We might just need to have the NET THROWING tournament. It might become as big as the SC vs Clemson football game. However, I will wager to bet that neither side will win every category, including the one's you listed. But I bet it would be a fun and interesting competition.

I would like to make a couple other points here for all interested readers. Fred is 100% right about what works best for an individual is what is best for that individual. That is true for all areas of life as well. The point I want to make is not to compare the net size, but to compare the throwing method. I mentioned that I throw a 10-12 foot net in the demonstrations. That is just for those who say it can't be done. The net size is very important depending on the bait and the specific situation. If you are throwing in open water and the bait is deep, the larger net does not colapse as fast as it sinks allowing it to be more effective in deeper water. The larger net size is also important when the bait is free to run in all directions, like in open water. However, as Fred said in other posts, the net size can also be a negative, or at least not be an advantage. When throwing in smaller areas, the larger size net may just pose a bigger problem. Many readers don't truely understand the difference in throwing for gizzard shad in the back of creeks and throwing in open water for alwives and blueback herring. It is much different.

One last point. At one time the Swiss People were the worlds best watch-makers. They made the most (over 98%), best, and most accurate watches in the world. Then up comes a new watch. It did not have hands. It was digital. Who ever heard of a watch without hands. No one would want them. Today, there are over 900 watches made that are digital compared to every 1 made with hands. And the Japanese people are now known as the best watch makers in the world. The Japanese make the vast majority (over 91%) of digital watches. But, do you know who invented the digital watch? Two Swiss watch-makers. They couldn't get anyone to help them. The company they worked for was not proud of the invention and did not patent it. The two watch-makers took their invention to a convention where no one but a couple of investor were interested. Those investors bought the invention and took it back to Japan. And that my friends, as Paul Harvey would say, is the rest of the story.

My point is very simple. Don't schrug-off something just because you don't know it, but after you have a chance to try it, then go with what is bst suited for what you do, and for what works best for how you do it. If you don't truely understand the differences in the various different ways required to catch bait, ask questions. Don't put any one down. In my opinion, Fred (Dominator) has been one of the best users of this board. He is always willing to tell the how-to's and the what-works to people asking questions. Fred makes his living striper fishing. And unfortunately for many of our striper fishing friends who don't live in SC. Bait is not so easy to just drive up and buy, like we can in SC.

Thanks to Fred and all the other people making good striper discussion.

Warren
