John Bruce Smith, 87, of 155 Riley Smith Drive, died Dec. 22, 2003, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late William Homer and Roxie Pedan Smith, and was the widower of Pauline Thompson Smith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. Before his retirement, he was employed with J.D. Hollingsworth on Wheels for 45 years. Mr. Smith was a member of Roper Mountain Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Robert Gerald Smith, of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Miller Smith, of Greenville; a granddaughter and her husband, Christine and Ron Kurta, of Mauldin; three great-grandchildren, Trey, Shane and Zachary; a sister, Helen Wilson, of Simpsonville. Two sons, John Smith Jr. and William Henry Smith, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, tonight from 7 to 8:30. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roper Mountain Baptist Church, with burial at the church cemetery.

The family is at the residence: 155 Riley Smith Drive.
